Conference Scheduling

At Collegiate Consulting, our goal is to find comprehensive solutions that benefit institutions and their athletes in financial and non-financial ways. We are committed to increasing revenue, creating efficiencies and maximizing operations. Due to COVID-19, our commitment has never been more important.

As schools began to announce the potential of fall sports being played in the spring, we developed our Conference Scheduling Service. The complexities of a combined fall and spring season, while balancing overlap with winter sports, are unprecedented for many institutions.

Through our Conference Scheduling Services, we provide analysis and comparisons of many elements that must be considered when creating a combined schedule. Through data provided by institutions and conferences, we will:

  • Honor Rivalry Games
  • Prioritize Marquee Sports
  • Minimize Missed Classes
  • Optimize Travel
  • Allocate Support Staff
  • Note Minimum/Maximum Competitions

Even in times of uncertainty, we are committed to increasing revenue, creating efficiencies and maximizing operations for all the institutions that we work with.

NAIA Fisk Eyes Division II

It could be said that some institutions are using the COVID-19 pandemic to their advantage, setting themselves up to be in a better place after than they were before. Fisk University is doing just that as they look to make the jump to the Division II Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

We started this project with Fisk after Labor Day, as we suspected many institutions would start thinking of their next move. We are currently comparing Fisk’s financial and non-financial elements to that of the SIAC. We look forward to finishing this study and continuing to assist Fisk during this move.

Stetson Football Comeback

DELAND, FL (October 14, 2020) – In 2011, Stetson University engaged Collegiate Consulting to conduct a Football Feasibility Study. Stetson sponsored football from 1901 to 1956. Before being cut for financial reasons, the program had wins against big teams and even had won the – what is known today as – The Citrus Bowl.

We determined non-scholarship football would bring financial and non-financial benefits to not only Stetson University, but also DeLand, Fla. As a part of Title IX, Stetson also looked at adding women’s lacrosse.

Since our study, Stetson announced the addition of women’s lacrosse football in 2011 and began construction on the 25,000 square-foot, $6.7 million Athletic Training Center that is home to press boxes, meeting rooms and equipment rooms. Stetson football has seen success within the Pioneer League and continue to improve.

What's The Word?

As the intercollegiate market is evolving on a near daily basis, from NIL updates, layoffs and furloughs across athletic departments and sports contraction; another item we have closely monitored is conference realignment. In May, Collegiate Consulting client Florida A&M announced its move from the MEAC to the SWAC – approximately two weeks later Bethune-Cookman did the same thing. These moves were focused on geographic fit and cost-saving associated with reduced travel, as well as lowering missed student-athlete class time.

We firmly believe conferences will expand to 12 member-institutions, which will enhance conference scheduling, reduce non-conference games and assist with travel budget management. The argument against this has been that current member-institutions do not want to create additional revenue shares for their conference distribution.

In our opinion, especially with mid-major conferences, the advantages of increased conference scheduling outweigh creating an additional conference distribution revenue share. With these recent moves, the SWAC increased to 12 members, the addition of Robert Morris expanded the Horizon League to 12 and America East increased to 10 with NJIT joining in July.
