Collegiate Consulting’s recent study for the University of Toledo aggregated data from 2021 through 2023, and found the overall economic impact of Toledo Athletics on the Toledo area in fiscal year 2023 was $79.34 million.
With compelling data factored in, such as athletic events, sports camps, special events, athletic employees and the impact of student-athletes who remain in the Toledo area after graduation, among many others, Toledo received a full-scale view of its extensive reach – including, but not limited to, media exposure, brand visibility, net tuition, event visitor data, student-athlete volunteerism, academic institutional impact and others. Each factor was calculated utilizing category-specific direct and indirect multipliers to create conservative calculations for compiling the value of intercollegiate athletics to the University, the City of Toledo and Northwest Ohio.
Toledo Athletics produces an average of more than $81 million in annual advertising value, according to the study. The institution annually hosts more than 300,000 visitors to campus.

Last month saw Collegiate Consulting assist seven schools with either their reclassification application or reclassification annual reports, which were due to the NCAA on June 1. Collegiate Consulting assisted three institutions with their FBS Application, Strategic Plan, Annual Report – Missouri State (initial application); Jacksonville State (year two annual report) and Kennesaw State (year one annual report). All three institutions are (or will be) members of Conference USA.
In addition, Collegiate Consulting continued its work with two institutions in their Division II reclassification – Roosevelt University and Thomas More University. Roosevelt will become a provisional member of the GLIAC in July and TMU enters its second year as a GMAC provisional member. Finally, Collegiate Consulting assisted Mercyhurst University and the University of West Georgia with their DI Application and Strategic Plan, as Mercyhurst will join the NEC and UWG the ASUN on July 1 for year one of their DI reclassification.
For every institution, except for Roosevelt, Collegiate Consulting completed the divisional feasibility study prior to the institution’s pursuit and acceptance of their respective conference invitation.
Despite what the public might think, summer has never been a slow season for college athletic departments.
Collegiate Consulting has been working around the clock to provide feasibility and benchmarking reports for athletic programs, one of which University of Toledo Vice President and Director of Athletic Bryan B. Blair has summed up as “helping contextualize the value brought to a university community by assigning a dollar value to the many benefits of sponsoring a successful athletics program.”
There is clearly no break for the responsibility these hard-working ADs, coaches and support staff have to their universities and, most importantly, their student-athletes.
While driving ahead in pursuit of forward progress is extremely important, it is essential to look in the rearview mirror and have the best navigation to your destination.
As June is wrapping up soon, many in university athletics are using the weeks before their fall semesters to take the time to look into their departments with a fresh set of eyes.
Collegiate Consulting specializes in aiding such discoveries, and has the tools to provide a metaphorical magnifying glass to expedite that process.
