Collegiate Consulting completed a comprehensive benchmarking comparison for Fairfield University, as the institution was examining conference membership options for its intercollegiate athletic program.
Elements of the three-month study included athletic and sports operating budget comparisons; administrative/coaching staffing & salaries; scholarship comparisons; sports sponsorship; travel analysis; competitiveness; institutional comparison and source of revenue analysis for the Atlantic 10 Conference, America East Conference and eventual new home the Coastal Athletic Association.
“For the past five years, conference realignment and benchmarking studies have increased exponentially and become one of our cornerstone services and appreciate the opportunity to work with Fairfield, Paul (Schlickmann) and his staff,” stated Russell Wright, Managing Director of Collegiate Consulting.
In recent years the NCAA has made proactive moves to address student athletes’ health and safety. Earlier this month, the NCAA Committee on Competitive Safeguards and Medical Aspects of Sports approved the commissioning of a Cardiac Advisory Group. The Cardiac Care Best Practices assists universities in evaluating cardiac care plans and emergency action plans for cardiac arrest.
Committee members also approved Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport as the
inaugural topic for an NCAA Injury Surveillance Program sub study. Additionally, Stunt was added to the Concussion Safety Protocol Checklist as a contact/collision sport that requires medical personnel with training in the diagnosis, treatment and initial concussion management to be present at NCAA competitions and practices.
This time of year, we are also reminded of the dangers of heat. Forecasters predict that prolonged heat waves and above-average temperatures will dominate most regions throughout July and August this summer. Even professional athletes, staff and spectators at World Cup matches were affected in Miami, Kansas City and Philadelphia recently, necessitating cooling breaks.
Summer may not have competitions, but that doesn’t stop student-athlete training. Proper safeguards, like NCAA heat illness guidelines, ensure health and
limit injury
How much is your athletic department worth? Who benefits? These are the questions answered by Collegiate Consulting Economic Impact Studies.
Our studies examine revenue sources such as media rights, NCAA and conference distributions, bowl game proceeds, sponsorships, licensing and endowment income. Combined with economic impact metrics, studies also measure economic impacts over several years providing financial effects on the university as a whole, surrounding towns and cities and sometimes entire states.
Measurable impacts not only assist athletic departments in assessing current
success, but can also be used in future planning.
As we continue to partner with institutions of varying size and conference competition level, we are excited to explore opportunities for each new and existing clients. Several moving pieces to research give our university partners an expanded perspective for potential excellence.
