NASSAU, Bahamas (February 7, 2018) – Collegiate Consulting recently completed a comprehensive feasibility study for the University of the Bahamas. The six-month study entailed expansion of the current intercollegiate athletic program and the feasibility of joining the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and membership in The Sun
Conference.
The University, which was founded in 1974, was recently re-chartered as the University of the Bahamas. The 4,750 student institution has a fledgling athletic program with eight intercollegiate athletic programs and plans to add additional programs with consideration for women’s basketball, cross country and golf.
The study included a comparison of UB’s institution and athletic programs in relation to the 12 member Sun Conference as well as background and membership protocol for both the NAIA and Conference. Collegiate Consulting provided comprehensive benchmarking with regard to staffing, salaries, scholarships and operating budgets, both nationally and within the
Conference. Collegiate Consulting developed a five-year expense and revenue pro-forma for a transition into the NAIA and expansion of its current sports offerings, additional coaching and administrative staffing, and increase in sports budgets to be competitive in The Sun Conference.
“With a growing student population, construction of new residence halls and current athletic facilities that compare favorably within the NAIA, the University of the Bahamas is poised to increase the profile of the institution and its athletics program,” stated Collegiate Consulting managing director Russell Wright.
The institution will review the Study and determine timeline and potential next steps, added UB director of athletics Kimberley Rolle. “We are excited about the results of the study and the opportunities presented to us by Collegiate Consulting.”
