DELAND, Florida – Everything about Stetson University’s home opener on Saturday was electric: the fanfare, the football and even the weather.
The Hatters made their return to football with a 31-3 win over the Warner University Royals after a 57-year hiatus from the sport. While the game was delayed in the second quarter due to storms in the area – play resumed on Sunday at 3 PM – attendance reflected the excitement for the University and new team. The official attendance for the game was just shy of 6,500. Spec Martin Stadium has a capacity of 5,776.
Stetson fans also enjoyed an afternoon filled with exciting pregame festivities, including a game ball delivered by a skydiver at mid-field prior to the coin toss. Hatter Village featured festival and tailgating areas where fans watched the players march through the Hatter Walk on their way to the locker room.
After the excitement and amazing support of the home opener, Stetson University is very eager to continue the sellout trend on September 21st and 28th, as there are only a limited number of tickets remaining for each of these games. Fans are now able to purchase single game tickets for the next two home games against the Birmingham Southern Panthers and the San Diego Toreros. Currently undefeated, the Hatters will host local football youth football teams as well as other youth athletic organizations on Youth Sports Night September 21. This celebration will be followed by Friends and Family weekend on September 28th. General Admission tickets start at only $20.
