Collegiate Consulting assisted Norfolk State University in its search for a new Football Head Coach which concluded with the announcement of four-time NFL Pro Bowler and former NFL No. 1 draft pick Michael Vick, as the Spartans 19th football head coach.
Over the course of the two-and-a-half week search, Collegiate Consulting received more than 65 applicants for the position, with NSU conducting interviews the first and second week of December.
A Hampton Roads high school legend, Vick was an All-American quarterback at Virginia Tech, prior to being the No. 1 draft choice in the 2001 NFL Draft. The four-time pro bowler spent thirteen seasons with three teams in the NFL amassing 22,464 passing yards and 133 touchdowns while rushing for 6,109 yards with 36 touchdowns. Since 2017, Vick has worked as an NFL Analyst for Fox NFL Kickoff.
Russell Wright, Collegiate Consulting’s Managing Director, added “Norfolk State was a pleasure to work with. This is our second project with Melody (Webb) and her team. Throughout the search process, her team was engaged, responsive and accommodating to ensure we met our goal of naming the new football head coach prior to Christmas.”
A new year is a beacon of hope, undiscovered potential and aspirational endeavors. For many in college athletics, this can also mean new coaches, new goals and adjusting to new mandates.
With the NCAA convention around the corner, change is intrinsic with education sessions, business discussions and issues forums.
Yet, our focus remains invariable: the college student-athlete experience and the razor’s edge of balancing that with monetary allocation and literal human resources.
The new year reminds us that the need to progress is undeniable, but we gain perspective is seeing that winter sports student-athletes are still mid-season and all staffs, coaches and athletic directors are privileged to serve as custodians.
Improving upon the future need not defeat the importance of the present.
Athletic departments don’t get too long to see program decisions come to fruition. A vision sometimes has to be supported, verified and even justified to the board of trustees, alumni and the campus community.
Collegiate Consulting specializes in comprehensive Operational Reviews and has the tools to provide an in-depth approach to making a thoughtful and beneficial analysis.
